Lloyd Shearer

Obituary

Lloyd was born to Jim and Isobel Shearer (nee McFadyen) on October 9, 1934 in the Castleavery District. He attended school in Castleavery and some in MacNutt, as well as a short course at the Agricultural College in Brandon.   Following that, Lloyd embarked on a long and successful career in farming. In 1955, Lloyd met Marlene, the newly-hired teacher at Castleavery School.   On July 27, 1957, following a two-year courtship, Lloyd and Marlene were married in the Roblin Knox United Church. After the wedding, they moved to their first farm in the Dropmore area, where they farmed from 1957 to 1966.  It was during these years that they welcomed the birth of their three daughters – Terry Lynn in 1958, Diane Michelle in 1959, and Tannis Dawn in 1962.

In 1966, when Lloyd and Marlene relocated to his parents’ farm in Castleavery, they continued grain and cattle farming. In later years they expanded to include purebred Simmentals.  Their sons, Kevin Lloyd James and Bruce Robert, were born in 1968 and 1971 respectively. The birth of his children and grandchildren were Lloyd’s greatest moments. His life was lived with their needs always foremost in his heart.

Lloyd enjoyed working, socializing and travelling with his family, friends and neighbors. He also had many fun times with them at their cabin at Pyotts West Campground.   Camping, fishing, curling, skidooing, downhill skiing, and travelling were other activities he enjoyed.   Travels included a trip to Scotland, England and the Orkney Islands in 1985, as well as holidays with family and friends to Hawaii, Arizona, Alaska, Vegas, Palm Springs, Texas, Florida, Colorado, Montreal and the Maritimes.  Lloyd was a 4-H Conservation and Snowmobile Club leader, Boy Scout leader, as well as assistant hockey coach.

Lloyd will be fondly remembered and missed by Marlene, his wife of 62 years, and his children Terry (Errol) of Roblin, Diane (Brian) of Calgary, Tannis (Garry) of Dauphin, Kevin (Michelle) of Yorkton, and Bruce (Carol) of Winnipeg. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Lindsay Langan (Darryl),  Kristian Andres (Nicole), Brady Andres (Stephanie) and Scott Cornelius (Jacqueline); Carly Titanich (Ryan), and Sydney Titanich; Erin Roloff (Luke) and Benjamin Roloff (Emily); Tim Shearer and Rob Shearer; Miles Shearer, as well as great-grandchildren, Hayleigh and Dustin.  Lloyd is survived by one brother, Murray Shearer, sisters-in-law Jessie Shearer, Gladys Shearer, Bev Laliberte, Rena Wondrasek-Tremaine, and brothers-in-law, Garland Laliberte and Duane Tremaine. He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Shearer, sister-in-law, Audry Laliberte and brother-in-law, Wendell Wondrasek.

Many thanks from the family to all those who were part of Lloyd’s life, and for celebrating his life today with us.
