Darrel Conrad Wohlgemuth, my dearly beloved husband, our Dad and brother, was born to Abraham and Selma (Wiebe) Wohlgemuth on November 23, 1959 at Steinbach, Manitoba. On November 1, 2019, six days after suffering a cardiac arrest, Darrel peacefully passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba with his family around him. He was three weeks from reaching his sixtieth birthday.
Darrel moved with his parents to Roblin, Manitoba at the age of six years, where he attended school, helped on the family farm, and grew to manhood. He accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on March 25, 1974, by Minister Alva Froese. Darrel's Christian life was very meaningful to him, and he remained faithful until the end. In his late teens, Darrel spent a few years working in Alberta where he made many lasting friendships. Upon returning to Roblin, he was involved with farming and truck driving until his death. During the summer of 1992, Darrel met me, Gaylene Nightingale, the love of his life. We were married a year later on July 11, 1993 at Chickasha, Oklahoma. He fulfilled my life's dreams for over twenty-six years. Our home was blessed with four children. Many times he commented on the beautiful family God gave us and often mentioned each one in prayer. Quality time was very important to Dad. We have many precious memories: working together on our farm, family meetings, singing, and various road trips. Our memorable vacation this past summer, visiting our children and other relatives, was a highlight of his life. Darrel had a very caring heart. He looked for and embraced opportunities to visit with anyone he met. He enjoyed giving of his time to the community by serving on the Roblin Fire Department for eighteen years. There were still many things that Darrel wanted to do in his life. Although he left us so unexpectedly, we want to trust that this was God's will for him and us that are left behind.
Those who will miss him the most are me, his loving wife, Gaylene; two sons and two daughters: Lance, of the home; Carmella and Ethan Phelps, Hiawatha, Kansas; Jared and Lynelle, of the home; three brothers and one sister: Reg, Edberg, Alberta; Lowell and Laureen, Hythe, Alberta; Mervin and LeAne, Bluffton, Alberta; Maxine and Ben Schartner, Linden, Alberta; three brothers-in-law: Weldon and Saundra Nightingale, Eakly, Oklahoma; Merlin and Dorothy Nightingale, Enid, Oklahoma; Steve and Shirley Nightingale, Lakin, Kansas; two sisters-in-law: Jane Nightingale, Chickasha, Oklahoma; Shannon and Rodney Unruh, Bradley, Arkansas; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, his parents-in-law, one brother-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
