Verna Aileen Doering (nee Becker) passed away quickly and peacefully on Sunday, May 19th, after being diagnosed with a brain tumor on March 11, 2019. She had only been one month in Crocus Court Personal Care Home.
Verna was born on August 25th, 1927 at MacNutt, SK. She was the first child born to George and Molly Becker followed thereafter by Beatrice, Roland, Georgianna, Lorne, Beverly and Dennis.
Verna was baptized on September 11th, 1927 in MacNutt Lutheran Church. Verna’s family moved at some point from MacNutt to Makaroff. Verna was confirmed in St. Paul’s congregation in Togo, SK Lutheran Church on August 23rd, 1942 by Pastor Al Propp.
On June 19th, 1946, Verna was united in marriage to Arthur Doering at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Shevlin, MB. In May 1947, Art and Verna moved to Grandview. They lived and farmed there for 50 years. Mom took pride in being a homemaker which included both outdoor and inside duties. She had daily chores in the barn with cows, chickens and pigs and then continued her domestic duties inside the home preparing meals, baking, cleaning and raising her children. We don’t know how she juggled so many balls at any one time and still remained a strong influence on her children.
In 1997, Art and Verna made their retirement home in Roblin. Verna sang with the United Church Choir, which she enjoyed immensely, as music was always dear to her. Verna also enjoyed singing at the jams at the Life & Art Centre. Her pastimes included reading, playing cards, and word search books. Mom enjoyed trips to Edmonton, Brooks, Kelowna, Yellowknife and certainly lots of trips to Winnipeg, to visit family.
Art passed away on April 25th, 2010. Verna stayed in her house for another 4 1/2 years and then sold the house and moved into Maple Manor in December, 2014. Verna was very happy there and enjoyed the new friendships she made and participated in most of the activities offered to residents.
She was very good at keeping in touch with her family, relatives, and friends.
Verna was predeceased in death by her parents - George and Molly Becker, husband Arthur Doering, brother Lorne Becker, brother-in-laws Leonard Ruf, Walter, Lawrence, Oscar and Elmer Doering/Deering, Edwin Andres, and Phil Ochosky, sister-in-laws Frieda, Ruth, and Neta Doering/Deering.
