The family of the late Florence Schmollinger, sadly announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother at the Roblin Personal Care Home at the age of 86 years on November 11, 2019.
Flooria (Florence) Kipper, began her life on November 20, 1932 in the R. M. of Boulton, a daughter to Dora Smigelsky. Florence was later confirmed on October 5, 1947, into the Lutheran Faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Shevlin, Mb. Florence lived with her grandmother from the age of 2 to 8 years in Shell Valley, then lived with foster parents Louis and Martha Klimack from Russell, until the age of 14 years. She then moved to Shevlin, to live with her sister and brother-in-law Mary and Art Doering. In Shevlin, is where she would meet her future husband, Charlie (Karl) Schmollinger. Florence and Charlie were united in marriage at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Shevlin, on June 23, 1950. Together, they were blessed with 6 daughters.
Florence was an active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid at Shevlin and later St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Roblin. Florence farmed with her husband Charlie in the Grainfield District but also worked part-time in Roblin, until they moved to Roblin in 1979. From 1981 to 1993 she was employed as a janitor at the Royal Bank.
Florence enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She loved to cook and teach her grandchildren, grandma’s way. Her passion was gardening.
She loved all sports, but especially curling. She was a great curler and as a skip, her and her team won several awards in Manitoba. In later years, she was an avid fan of the NorthStar’s and Minor Hockey and Roblin Hood’s fastball teams.
Throughout the years, Florence volunteered with many organizations in the Town of Roblin. In the 1960’s Florence received a hospitality award for her contribution to the Winter Games and Moonshine Daze Festival, from Manitoba Tourism.
Florence is survived by her daughters; Linda (Ken) Dreger, Leona (George) Buleziuk, Ivy Andres, Iris (Walter) Tokar, Donna (Lindsay) Nernberg, Brenda (Frank) Molyneux, 12 grandchildren, 21 greatgrandchildren, brother-in-law Emil Schmollinger, sister-in-law Frieda Liskie as well as several nieces and nephews. Florence is predeceased by her husband Charlie (Karl), mother Dora Smigelsky, foster parents Louis and Marth Klimack, brothers; Bill, Harry, Peter and Mike Walnuik, sisters; Mary Doering and Carol Myketty and son-in-law Vernon Andres.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held May 9, 2020 from St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church at 2:00pm with Pastor Barry Wood officiating. Interment will follow at the Roblin District Cemetery. Those who so wish may make memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or CancerCare Manitoba as gifts of remembrance of Florence. One last Florence story. Mom and Dad attended a curling bonspiel in Yorkton, where she met a World Champion curler. During the conversation, she proceeded to instruct the curler on how to curl. A year later they attended another bonspiel in Brandon. As they walked through the crowd, she could hear someone calling her. “Hey Flo, Hey Flo !”, low and behold it was the same World Champion curler whom they had met a year earlier. Just another example of the kind of person she was. We will miss her dearly and never forget her. We love you mom.
