In Loving Memory of

Verna Rita Bouvier

1930 - 2011

On Friday, July 22, 2011, Verna Rita Bouvier, age 80 years, of Roblin, Manitoba, and formerly of the Boggy Creek District of Manitoba, succumbed to cancer at the Roblin District Health Centre, after many months of suffering.

Verna Bouvier was born on December 28, 1930 at Boggy Creek, MB, on Sec. 33-29-28 W1, LGD of Park North, MB.  She was the youngest daughter of the late Henri “Henry” and Emelia “Emily” (nee Lafournaise) Bouvier.

Verna attended Grande Prairie School until Grade VIII, and then started helping her parents in their general store.  Verna had quite an affinity for this type of work, and soon took over the responsibilities of running a general store in the country.  She operated this general store until 1964, when it burned to the ground.  A few months later, the store was rebuilt and Verna was once again in the country store business.  Verna made a decision to take an early retirement and then concentrated on her favourite pastime of going to bingos, near and far.  Over the years, Verna transported many of the local ladies to these bingo outings and a great time was had by all.  Verna also enjoyed playing cards with her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Bill Burwash, and their friends.

Verna loved country and western music and in her younger years had attended many “Old Time Dances” where she danced to these tunes.  Quite often, her friend, Jean Vermeylen would accompany her to these dances.  Because of her devotion to this music, she requested that, “How Far Is Heaven” and “Think of Me” be played at her Prayer Vigil Service.  They were sung beautifully by Connie Henry.

Verna admired animals and as a young person, she had a horse that she rode around the countryside.  Quite often, her cousin, Simone Cockerill would join her.  They had some great times together.

When Verna had her second bout of cancer, she met many friends who she continued to correspond with over the years.  Verna also had several people transport her to various appointments in Regina and Yorkton, and we would like to thank them at this time, as it was greatly appreciated by the family. We would also like to thank all the nurses, support staff and doctors who attempted  to make her stay at the hospital as comfortable as possible, as she endured severe pain during these last few months. A special thank you to Fr. Joe Cabral for his visits to Verna’s bedside the last few days.  We would also like to thank cousins and friends, especially Simone Cockerill and Toni Henry who spent the last few hours with Verna; it was greatly appreciated, as the immediate family could not be there with Verna at this crucial time.

Surviving to mourn Verna’s death and cherish many fond memories are nieces;  Linda (Pierre) LeProhon, Barbara Burwash, all of Winnipeg, MB, Sadie (Martin) Berg of B.C. nephews; Ralph(Roberta) Bouvier and Maurice (Lynn)Bouvier all of Flin Flon, MB, brother-in-law; Bill Burwash of Roblin, MB, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Verna was predeceased in death by her parents, Henry and Emily (nee Lafournaise) Bouvier, brothers; Henry “Fortunat” Bouvier, Herbert Bouvier and sister; Alice Burwash.

Prayer Vigil Service was held on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, 7:00 PM from the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home, Roblin, MB with Rev. Fr. Darius Biliran officiating. Lila Dixon read the Scripture Lessons and Toni Henry delivered the Eulogy.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, 10:30 AM from Ste. Claire Roman Catholic Church, San Clara, MB with Rev. Fr. Darius Biliran officiating.  Margaret Carriere and Lila Dixon read the Scripture Lessons and Toni Henry read the Eulogy. Casket Bearers were, Brian Allarie, Louie Allarie, Allan Poitra, Lennice Langan, Greg Davey, and Alvin Laviolette. All those who had shared in Verna’s life were asked to consider themselves Honorary Casket Bearers.

Following the Interment Service, a reception was held for Family and Friends at the Metis Centre in San Clara, MB.
