Sid ProkopchukApril 21, 1926 ~ March 26, 2017 (age 90)
In Loving Memory of
Sid Prokopchuk’s journey of life started in Sandy Lake, Manitoba on April 21, 1926 and ended in Roblin, Manitoba on March 26, 2017, when he passed away at the age of 90 years with his family at his side.
Sid was a son of Wes and Nellie (nee Sichewski) Prokopchuk. On May 16, 1953, he married Minnie Shwaluk.
Sid and Minnie lived in various communities in Manitoba, while he worked as a carpenter. He built new homes, renovated existing homes and any other wooden structure. For a period of time, he worked on the hydro-electric dam at Grand Rapids, Manitoba.
After his retirement, he continued to do woodworking, crafts and fishing. Many times, you would see Sid and Minnie with their truck, camper and boat heading up north for fishing trips. They would often return home with their limit of pickerel.
Sid was predeceased by his parents, Wes and Nellie (nee Sichewski) Prokopchuk; his brothers, Jake and Paul Prokopchuk; his sisters, Elizabeth (Phil) Bollinback and Carrie (Ken) Rose, and his daughter-in-law Glenna Prokopchuk.
Sid will be remembered by his wife Minnie (nee Shwaluk) Prokopchuk of Roblin; his daughters, Audrey (Gordon) Macaulay of Kelowna, BC, and Joyce (Dean) Robinson of Winnipeg; his sons, Lenard (Audrey) Prokopchuk of Grandview, Leslie Prokopchuk of Roblin and Lester Prokopchuk of Roblin. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Christal, Bradley, Darrell (Jamie), Trevor (Candice), Sandee (Ian), Braydee, Joelinn, and Reegis, and his great-grandchildren, Jaiden-Rae, Aleyna, Ainsley and Brayden.
Sid will also be missed by his sister Elsie Spitula of Sandy Lake, Manitoba, his brothers, Walter Prokopchuk of Vancouver, BC, and Peter (Pat) Prokopchuk of Sandy Lake as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 2:30 PM at the Holy Redeemer Ukrainian Catholic Church in Roblin, with Father Yaroslav Strukhlyak officiating. The cross bearers were Christal Macaulay and Sandee McIntyre and the picture bearer was Joelinn Reid.
Sid was carried to his final resting place in Roblin Catholic Cemetery by the casket bearers, Bradley Macaulay, Darrell Robinson, Trevor Robinson, Braydee Prokopchuk, Reegis Sanche and Ian McIntyre.
Following the Interment Service, a reception for family and friends was held in the lower auditorium of Holy Redeemer Church.
