Robert “Bob” LaPlante
1930 – 2017
Robert “Bob” LaPlante was born on October 20, 1929 at home on SW 25-29-29 in the R.M. of Shell River, Manitoba. He was the third oldest born to Albert and Bella (nee Genaille) LaPlante.
Bob received his education at Clemenceau School, where he attended until the age of 15. After this, he went to work for farmers at stooking and threshing time.
Bob then left for the North where he worked for Midwest Drilling in Flin Flon and Thompson. Later, he decided to venture west and was employed on the west coast, still in drilling, but for various companies.
In 1983, Bob returned home to the Clemenceau district area and resumed farming with his brothers. He also helped look after his mother who was aging.
Bob later moved into the Roblin Residences and resided there until his health deteriorated. He then moved to the Crocus Court Personal Care Home, where he lived until his passing on Sunday, May 14, 2017.
Bob was predeceased by his father, Albert LaPlante in 1982, his mother, Bella (nee Genaille) LaPlante in 1995, his brothers, Edward in 1963, Alex in 2009, and William (Bill) in 2015, his sister Evelyn in 2009, a niece in 1954 and a nephew in 1996.
Bob is survived by his brother Frank (Bernice) LaPlante of Roblin, his sister Elsie (Don) Evans of San Clara, and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
A Prayer Vigil Service was held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 7:30 PM at Ste. Claire Roman Catholic Church in San Clara with Father Paul Bisson officiating.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM also at Ste. Claire Roman Catholic Church with Father Patrick officiating. Roxanne and Brian Paul and Connie Henry shared their musical talents during the service.
The Casket Bearers; Paul Bergeron, Grant LaPlante, Garth LaPlante, Doug Vaughan, Gordon Langan and Walter Langan carried Bob to his final resting place in Ste. Claire Roman Catholic Church Parish Cemetery.
