Halirewich, Eva Martha (nee Andrusiak), December 26, 1934 - February 19, 2018 was born to Mary and Alec Andrusiak in the school district of Poplar Point, Saskatchewan.

She received the majority of her school education in the district of Togo but finished her education in Makaroff.  During her school years in Togo she worked at Mac’s Café almost right up to the time she was married.  She was quite young when she started working at Mac’s. Small enough that she would have to stand on a coke box to do the dishes!

Along came George Halirewich who swept her off her feet – in the spring of 1951.  They met at a mud puddle.  Eva was looking out over the mud puddle, contemplating how to get around it.  George came along – scooped her up – took her to the middle of the puddle and said, “A date, and if you say No then I drop you right here!”  They were married on September 28, 1952.

Eva and George moved into a small one room house at Silverwood, Manitoba in the fall of 1952.  Here they had 5 children – David (who passed as an infant in 1954), Grant, Loren, Carol & Pamelia (who passed in March, 2003).  Eva would pack the kids into the Jeep and away they would go – berry or mushroom picking or visiting.  You would often find them in the bush somewhere! They lived here until August, 1968.

They moved onto and took over George’s parents farm in 1968 and added to their growing family - Lori was the last one to be added.  Eva was an avid gardener - always out in her garden and loved to be tending to her vegetables, flowers, raspberry & strawberry patch.  In the winter, she would be out on the snowmobiles with the kids.  Eva and youngest 2 just about wore one snowmobile as you would find them going across country every day after school – even in -40 weather!  Eva and George would enter and race in the Togo snowmobile derbies, Togo curling bonspiels, and spending time ice fishing together.  Spring, summer & falls were mostly spent in the fields planting and harvesting the grain.  Eva was the grain hauler until the boys were old enough to help their dad out.

As the kids grew up, they spread out across the country. George and Eva spent time traveling to Mexico, various destinations in the US, the Yukon and Canadian West Coast.

Eva was a fun-loving character.  She loved to laugh and play practical jokes.  But she was always there to help a friend in a time of need.  She would drop whatever she was doing to help with anything that she could.  And she loved to talk to people.  It didn’t matter where you came from or who you were – Eva would be your friend.

Eva moved into the Roblin Care Centre in September 2013.  She remained there until her passing on Monday, February 19, 2018.  She was 83 years young.  She will be greatly missed by her husband, George.  Son GRANT & his son David, wife Amber & 2 children: Iris & Indiana.  Son: LOREN.  Daughter: CAROL and her children: daughter: Jaala, husband Joe & children: Blake, Jaylyn, Brooklyn & Jordyn; daughter: Larissa, husband Russell & children: Charleston & Landon; daughter: Onalee.  Daughter LORI and her husband George and their children: Sarah & Zachary.  Eva has been laid to rest next to her infant son, David, in the Silverwood Cemetery.

Funeral Service was held Monday, February 26, 2018 from the Chapel of NairnChyz-Wolkowski Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Jamieson officiating.  Anyone that would like to donate in Eva’s memory, can do so to the Crocus Court Personal Care Home where she spent the last few years of her life.  To leave a note of condolence for the family please visit
