Elsie BaumungJanuary 10, 2018
Baumung, Elsie February 1, 1920 – January 10, 2018 passed away three weeks short of her 98th birthday. Elsie was the sixth child of Jacob and Ernestine (nee Wagner) Schmollinger. She grew up in the Tummel area where she also attended school. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, attending St. John’s Lutheran Church in Shevlin, Manitoba.
On October 14, 1941 she was united in marriage to Fredrick (Fritz) Baumung. They lived and farmed in the Zorra area and were members of Zorra Grace Lutheran Church. They raised five children. Elsie was a hard worker; milking cows, slopping pigs, raising chickens, and selling eggs. In Roblin she was known as the “Egg Lady”. She always had a great garden and was a great cook. She made the best kuchen. She also enjoyed visiting, playing cards, and playing bingo. Fritz and Elsie farmed until 1982 when they bought a home and moved to Roblin. Fritz passed away in February 1993 and Elsie lived in her home till 2012, when she moved to Maple Manor. In May 2015 she was moved to the Crocus Court Personal Care Home and lived there till her passing.
Elsie is survived by her daughters Mildred Danylko of Calder and Corinne (Rod) Curle of Regina, nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren, one sister Freida Liske of Beausejour, Manitoba, and a brother Emil Schmollinger of Roblin, sister-in-law Florence Schmollinger, daughter-in-law Marie Baumung of Langley, B.C. and daughter-in-law Shirley Baumung. Elsie was predeceased by her three sons, Gerald, Leroy, and Ernie Baumung, brothers Jack and his wife Molly, Fred and his wife Hertha, Charlie, Adolf and his wife Freida, sisters Marie and her husband Bill Zimmer, Nellie and her husband Adolf Andres, Bertha and her husband John Watson, sister-in-law Hertha Schmollinger, brother-in-law Albert Liske, son-in-law Rodney Danylko and two siblings in infancy.
Funeral Service was held Monday, January 15, 2018 from St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Roblin, Manitoba with Pastor Barry Wood officiating. Interment followed at the Roblin District Cemetery. Those who so wish may make memorial contributions to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the Roblin District Cemetery Fund as tokens of remembrance.
