 Bob and Diane Nairn have lived in Roblin and provided funeral services to families of the Parkland region of western Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan since 1980.
Bob was born in Winnipeg and raised near Glenboro, Manitoba. At the age of 16, his mother passed away. Her funeral arrangements were handled by W.R. (Bill) Jamieson of Jamieson’s Funeral Service. This experience left an indelible impression on Bob that would alter his life’s direction. He later started working for Mr. Jamieson in his funeral and ambulance services.
During this time he met Diane Chyz who was raised near Grandview, Manitoba. She had moved to Glenboro to work as a nurse’s aide at Glenboro Hospital. They married in 1969, and had two children; a son Paul, and a daughter Allison. Over the years their family has grown and now includes daughter-in-law Joanne Nairn, son-in-law Ryan Lawson and five grandchildren; Tristen and Cooper Nairn and Gillian, Barrett and Jasper Lawson.
In 1980, the chance to manage the Roblin Memorial Chapel arose and Bob and Diane moved their young family to Roblin. Bob soon began his apprenticeship and in July of 1982 he received his professional designation as an Embalmer. A year later in July of 1983 he received his professional designation as a Funeral Director. Bob was part of the first class to graduate from the Western School of Funeral Service under the tutelage of Mr. Stewart Windrum.
In 1989, Bob and Diane realized a dream. The Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home was constructed and opened on Saturday, December 9 of that year. It became the only locally owned funeral home in Roblin, and continues with this distinction today.
Bob and Diane are assisted in serving families of the Parkland district by Funeral Attendants Alex Kurchak and Alice Styba.
In today’s world of big business, it is sometimes difficult to tell who actually owns a funeral home. Bob and Diane have consciously decided to keep their business a small, family-owned operation. They live in Roblin and are a part of the community. It is their hope that families in their time of need find it comforting to know the owners of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home are right inside- continuing to provide the funeral services that the Parkland has come to trust year after year.
