Our history begins with Bob and Diane Nairn.
In 1980, the chance to manage a funeral home arose and Bob and Diane moved their young family to Roblin, Manitoba. Bob soon began his apprenticeship and in July of 1982 he received his professional designation as an Embalmer. A year later in July of 1983 he received his professional designation as a Funeral Director. Bob was part of the first class to graduate from the Western School of Funeral Service under the tutelage of Mr. Stewart Windrum.
In 1989, Bob and Diane realized a dream. The Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home was constructed and opened on Saturday, December 9 of that year. For the next 28 years Bob and Diane owned and operated the funeral home assisting many families during their darkest times.
On September 1, 2017 Dereck Wolkowski joined Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home. Dereck is a Saskatchewan farm boy, from just across the border, in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. Born and raised on the family farm just west of Canora, Saskatchewan. Dereck graduated from the Canora Composite School. Finding a passion for funeral service early in life, he graduated from the Saskatchewan Funeral Service Association education program in 1998 while he worked for a funeral home in Kamsack.. When the funeral home was sold to a corporation, Dereck took over as manager. During that time, he was awarded a prestigious award by the corporation. He was awarded the President’s Award for exceeding families expectations and community involvement.. Dereck brings over 2 decades of funeral service experience to Nairn-Chyz.
Also joining Nairn-Chyz is Robyn Tataryn. Robyn is a former Kamsack resident with family roots near Wroxton, Sk. She graduated from Mount Royal College in 2000 with a Certificate in Funeral Directing/Embalmer. She completed her apprenticeship at Acadia Drive Funeral Chapel, Saskatoon, SK. She then moved to Red Deer, AB and began working at Red Deer Funeral Home and later McIniss and Holloway Funeral Chapels in Calgary, AB.
In today’s busy world of big business and corporately owned funeral homes it is sometimes difficult to tell who actually owns a funeral home. Nairn Chyz is proud to keep their business a small, family operation and take pride in taking the time to deal with their families. It is their hope that families in their time of need find it comforting to know the owners of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home are right inside- continuing to provide the funeral services that the Parkland has come to trust year after year.
